We caught up with Gavin, one of our newest Software Engineers at Elementz, to learn more about his journey into software development, what excites him most about joining the team, and what he gets up to outside of work.

Can you tell us a bit about your career background and what led you into software engineering?

It all started through playing games in my free time when I was younger. The curiosity to understand how software works behind the scenes led me to study Software Development at RGU. I spent four years gaining knowledge in programming, systems design, and project work.

After graduating, I spent three years in a developer role, building systems that helped companies manage their projects more efficiently. It was a great experience that gave me a solid foundation in creating practical, impactful software solutions.

What are you most excited about at Elementz? Are there any particular skills or areas you’re keen to develop?

One of the things I’m most excited about is being able to work with and learn from such a great team. The growth that’s happened in such a short space of time at Elementz is amazing, and I’m looking forward to contributing to that journey.

I’m excited to continue developing my technical skills and exploring new areas that push me to grow as a developer.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, I’m a big football fan, so a lot of my time is spent watching any games that are happening during the week. I also try to stay active after spending the day at a desk, whether that’s going to the gym or occasionally playing a round of golf.

If you could create any type of software, what would it be and why?

If I could make any type of software, it would probably be something that helps me set and keep track of my fitness goals. I’ve tried a few of the existing options, but I’ve never found one that quite works for me. Being able to build a flexible tool and add features based on what I actually need would be great!
