As Integrity Elementz evolves and expands into new markets, including renewables, power and utilities, telecommunications and defence, Elementz is continuing to invest in both its technology and its people.
The latest addition to the team is Paris Dafermos, who joins the company as Software Engineer II. Based in Aberdeen, Paris will support the ongoing development of the Integrity Elementz platform, enabling clients to manage asset integrity effectively.
Having already settled into the team, we caught up with Paris to learn more about his background, what attracted him to Elementz and what excites him about the future.
Tell us about your career journey and what led you into software engineering.
I spent more than four years working in hospitality before moving into technology, so I came into software engineering from a completely different direction.
I started teaching myself to code and quickly became fascinated by the idea of building something from nothing and solving problems. That led to my first development role, and since then I’ve worked on a range of platforms, from risk and investigation software used by organisations such as Network Rail and Coca-Cola to a cloud-based dental platform supporting more than 80,000 professionals across North America.
My hospitality background has actually been a huge advantage. It taught me how to communicate effectively, stay calm under pressure and always think about the experience of the end user.
What are you most excited about at Elementz?
I’m always motivated by new challenges, and Elementz offers plenty of opportunities to learn and grow. What stood out to me was the company’s commitment to developing its people. There is a great focus on learning and development, and people are given opportunities to progress their careers.
I also enjoy being part of a close-knit team while working on software that has a global impact.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I’m a big gym person and train most days. I also practise martial arts, which gives me another challenge outside of work. When I’m looking to switch off, I enjoy gaming with friends. It’s a good balance between staying active and taking time to relax.
If you could build any type of software, what would it be and why?
Honestly, I’d build something very similar to what we’re already creating at Elementz, just taking it even further.
There’s huge potential to make integrity management smarter, more intuitive and more valuable for the people using it every day. The energy sector generates vast amounts of data, and I’m excited by the opportunities to turn that data into better decision-making.
As Elementz continues to grow across traditional energy and renewables, it’s exciting to be part of a company where you can influence the product and help shape its future.
