We’re thrilled to welcome Rowan James and Morgan Cresswell as Associate (Graduate) Customer Operations Engineers. Recently graduated and eager to apply their knowledge, Rowan and Morgan bring a fresh perspective, innovation, and enthusiasm to their roles.
As we remain committed to redefining industry standards and building a truly interconnected digital ecosystem, Rowan and Morgan will play a key role in elevating the experience for our customers, ensuring streamlined operations and improved asset integrity across the board.
They’ve taken some time out of their busy schedules to answer a few questions, so you can get to know them better.
What did you study, and what inspired you to choose that field?
M: I studied a BSc (Hons) in Computer Application Software Development at Robert Gordon University. I chose this field because I’ve always enjoyed building and creating things, and this course gave me the freedom and tools to do just that. Plus, I had the chance to explore Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, which I became very interested in while completing my HND.
R: I studied Video Game Design and Production at Abertay University. My passion for graphic design and video games naturally led me to this field. I loved that I could turn my hobbies into a career path.
What’s something you learned in university that has been surprisingly helpful in your role so far?
M: Learning SQL throughout university has made my transition into this role a lot easier.
R: My coding experience in a game design environment has been surprisingly helpful. I’ve found that a lot of what I learned in coding applies here at Elementz, which has helped me hit the ground running.
What do you enjoy most about working at Elementz?
M: No day is ever the same, which keeps things interesting. One day I might be remotely setting up a PC for someone in another country, and the next, I’m diagnosing and creating a script to solve a problem across multiple client environments. It’s dynamic, and I love that.
R: I really enjoy the positive workplace culture at Elementz. You can tell it’s a culture that’s embedded and it was evident from the beginning – even during my first interview, I could tell everyone enjoyed working here.
If you could switch roles with anyone at Elementz for a day, who would it be and why?
M: If I were to swap with anyone at Elementz for a day it would have to be Ed, our Senior Software Engineer. I would love to have a go at the development side of software as this is what I mainly covered across my 4 years at university.
R: I’d switch with Adam to get a taste of what it’s like on the DevOps team. Although it’s tough work, I would like to see what it’s like to be a member of the DevOps team for a day.
What’s a surprising skill or fact about yourself that the team doesn’t know yet?
M:I have a motorbike license, and I’m currently working on getting my unrestricted bike license.
R: A fun fact is that I was born in a small town in Pembrokeshire, Wales, which happens to be the same birthplace as Batman – well, Christian Bale, who played him, anyway.
What’s one thing on your bucket list you’d love to accomplish within the next five years?
M: I’d love to move to Australia before I’m 30. I was initially planning to relocate to Perth in 2025, but after securing this role, I’ve decided to push those plans a little further down the line.
R: I would love to travel to Egypt to explore its ancient structures or visit other places rich in history and ancient civilizations.
What’s something you hope to learn or achieve during your time at Elementz?
M: I would like to learn more about the system and become more well-rounded when it comes to fixing problems. I would also like to use my experience in AI and machine learning to add some smart features to the software in the future.
R: I hope to be able to learn a bit of everything here at Elementz so I can help the team as much as possible.
